The Western States 100 Mile Run 2011

This video shows my experience at the 2011 Western States Endurance Run, 100 miles of UltraLife!

I look at my watch, it’s almost 2am. 93 miles in my legs, more than 20 hours since I left the start line…. It’s very dark now, the heat of the day is completely gone now, there is a slight breeze, it’s a tail wind; as if the forces of nature are cradeling me towards the finish line. I’m exhausted, my legs really ache. There’s a 1500ft of climbing in front of me, it’s endless, endless…. I’m running 100 miles through the mountains to take on the parts of my character that I hate so much – my negativity, my weakness to give up, my laziness. I’m running in an effort to rewire my brain, I have to decode and rebuild part of me that I was born with, parts of my nature that I’m not proud of, the dark-side is still in me. I’m here to face part of my character that I want to change, running all day and night distills everlasting change in me and I embrace the experience. Through ultra running and eating a diet of clean fresh fruits and vegetables, I’ve learned to give myself the greatest experiences that life has to offer. I’ve learned to love myself more.
